Basilica of the Mission San Diego de Alcala, San Diego, CA. The first of 21 missions established by the Franciscans along the California coast from 1769 - 1823. Blessed Junipero Serra was the founder of the Mission. Padre Luis Jayme, the first martyred Christian in California is buried here. Not just a historic relic of the Church of yesteryear, the Mission of San Diego de Alcala, a minor basilica, is the home of a very active Catholic community. Great place to experience the Mass.
