March 16, 2012 - Giuseppe Verdi's Messa da Requiem, St Joseph Cathedral, Hartford, CT. Verdi's Requiem presented as part of the Sacred Sounds Concert Series in conjunction with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the present day Cathedral of Saint Joseph Church. Produced by Dr Ezequiel Menendez, Music Director for the Archdiocese of Hartford, the program included more than 400 singers from the combined choruses of The Cathedral Choir, Hartford Chorale, New Haven Chorale, and The Hartt School Choruses with soloist parts by soprano Amanda Hall, mezzo-soprano Lucille Beer, tenor Raffaele Sepe, and bassist Ryan Speedo Green, and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr Edward Bolkovac. Instrumental in the chorale preparation for this massive work were Colin Britt, Richard Coffey, Dr Jeffrey Douma, Dr Carolina Flores, Gabriel Lofvall and Dr Stuart Younse. Dr Menendez began the concert program playing Cesar Franck's Trois Chorals, Choral No. 3 in a minor, on the Cathedral's Grand Organ to the delight of the capacity crowd of 1700 music aficionados. It was a wonderful warm up to the stirring performance of Verdi's Requiem that left concert goers abuzz at the end of the evening. Encore!
