St James Cathedral is the mother church for the Diocese of Brooklyn, NY. The parish itself dates back to 1822 with the current structure completed in 1903. It was declared a minor basilica in 1982.
The Diocese of Brooklyn has a co-Cathedral, St Joseph, used for larger events given St James (The Greater) has limited capacity.

Had the good fortune to visit on the Feast Day of St James and attend a very lively Mass. Everybody sings at St James and at the top of their voice. Impressive.
