Antoinette Strycharz, the keeper of the Pisanki for St Mary of Czestochowa in Middletown, CT, held an evening of egg "writing" in preparation for the Easter Season. The event was held on April, 4 2006 at the conclusion of The Ladies Guild meeting. A wonderful steward of Polish tradtion, "Toni" learned the art of Pisanki from her father who had learned the technique and patterns from his father. She spoke fondly of her childhood when her family would practice the art of pisanki on Good Friday. The following day, Easter Saturday, the parish priest would come to their home to bless the Pisanki and Easter meal. On Easter Sunday the family would exchange the beautifully decorated Pisanki as a symbol of the Resurrection.
