Chrism Mass at St Joseph Cathedral, Hartford, CT.
Chrism is the perfumed oil consecrated by the bishop for use in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders and signifies the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Chrism Mass takes place at the beginning of Holy Week and serves to bring together all the priest from the diocese for reaffirmation of their vows before the bishop. Each parish also sends a lay representative to receive their allotment of the holy oil for the coming year.
